NFL owners are ‘not sure’ what they can do about NFL’s ‘dysfunction’

The NFL owners have agreed to a new plan to help fix its long-term financial problems and is working with lawmakers to address the crisis, league officials said Monday.

In the most significant change since the end of the lockout in 2013, NFL owners will now have the power to create their own financial plan and to set its own terms and conditions for players.

The owners also agreed to allow players to play outside the confines of their home stadiums if they choose, and they will be able to use their own facilities and the private jets of their team owners if they are traveling abroad.NFL teams must pay the league about $50 million annually to cover the cost of player salaries and medical bills.

That is the same as the NFLPA has requested.

The agreement also allows owners to negotiate the terms of their players’ retirement.

It will also allow owners to hold their own player-related conferences and create their individual NFL Network and ESPN networks.

The deal is expected to be approved by the NFL Players Association on Tuesday, league sources said.NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is expected shortly to announce a new agreement with the players union, sources told ESPN.
